My son Gabriel and I are returning from a terrific trip to Minnesota to visit family, and take in the amazing scenery there this time of year.
It was wonderful reconnecting with cousins, aunts,
uncles, grandparents, etc. but the highlight of the trip for both of us was going “up north” to a cabin owned by some family members and make it available to other family when they’re not using it.
Now you mustn’t ever refer to this part of the world as “upstate Minnesota.”
My grandfather sternly corrected me years ago when I said that, and let’s just say certain reproofs from your elders tend to stick in your mind.
So Gabriel and I were planning on going up there, but didn’t know exactly when. But when he and I drove to a lake that’s an hour
or so north of Minneapolis, I said, “Let’s just go to the cabin.” He agreed, and we just went.
No change of clothes, no MacBook, no video game. We just went, and had a blast. Fishing, squirrel hunting with a sling shot bought at Walmart, chasing rabbits genuinely believing
we had a shot at catching them.
Please note no wildlife lost their lives due to our general incompetence in such things, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was we did something completely spontaneous, it was top quality father/son time and we both loved every minute of
it.
After two nights we were both ready to head back to “civilization.” But memories were made that we’ll both remember.
Now this approach is the polar opposite of what I would recommend a podcast client, but that’s what made it so much fun. If anything, I got to take my mind off work, work, work for a couple days.
No real call to action in this email. Just wanted to share a bit of our time together. Hope you enjoyed it.
(Now if you’re wanting to talk about doing a podcast, just reply to this email and we’ll talk
